Now in defense of his thought-process where he ‘warns’ his talent in his email that if a performer works for X-Play at less then their normal rate then other companies will expect the same; they can easily comment the job was for a big movie and the talent wanted to take a chance and get recognized come awards time. I think it is better to work with X-Play than to sit at home and turn down jobs especially in this declining market and if I was talent I would want a say in which movies my agent was turning down.
“We run a business and it’s our responsibility to keep our production budgets within reason respective of the current economic climate. Just the same, talent and their agents have the right to turn down any offer they receive. That is called capitalism and I get that. Turning down a starring role in a movie with no conversation with the actress is what might be referred to as a dictatorship” Mullen said with a smile.
Someone asked Mullen and his business partner Scott David if they thought that Derek would organize other agents to blackball X-Play from hiring talent in the future.
“Maybe,” stated David.
“Derek is smart he’s not stupid and our movies and actors will once again be adorned with adult movie award nominations and hopefully a lucky bunch will be standing in the victory circle should we continue to be blessed with funny movies and great performances,” Mullen hoped.
“I love this business but it is a business and we will continue to treat everybody fairly and with respect because I truly adore each and everyone I get the chance to work with. I still like Derek and would rub his bald head just for good luck if he were here right now but I felt compelled to defend myself and my company. I think that talent is quite smart and can see the real story between the lines of discontent and of two industry veterans that agree to disagree. We just want to make great movies at X-Play with happy actors and if the agents are happy that’s a bonus but they certainly should at least pretend to be happy when their actors receive critical acclaim and awards for the hard work they’ve put in,” Mullen concluded.

Agents ripping off talent with content trades and owning there domain names
So I just got a call from a producer in Los Angeles that had read my post about agents and they told me some interesting stuff. The agents are making the girls do content trades and sometimes even running there websites. This has been going on for a while. I remember when Kevin use to work for Derek and be the girls webmaster and shoot them in scenes that they would not be paid for.
A content trade is when either a male and female or male and female and camera man do a shoot and everyone shares copyrights to the scenes. Well when a producer or director or agent is involved in this its not fair to the talent for many reasons.
Basically the agents are making the girls do free scenes and not only getting free content to sell or do whatever they want with but they are also running the girls websites and getting a cut of all the people that sign up with a credit card to become a member of THE STARS site. This is so wrong and something should be done about this. If you have a agent making you do content shoots or running a site for you I can bet your getting ripped off. This also goes back to the whole thing about the agent owning your ass and wanting you to do things you are not comfortable with.

All the work I was doing I would have got on my own without him. I told him to take me off his site after a week or so. I was working twice a day on my own. After doing 40 scenes for big companies like bang bros, I moved from Miami to Los Angeles and started to get my own work. It took me about 3 weeks for directors to try me out in LA but once I was in, the work poured in like wild fire.
Jim Powers was one of the first people to start using me all the time, Sometimes 2 and 3 times a day. He got me in with many many other directors and companies.
After that I was approached by a couple agents in LA that also promised me the world. They saw me booked and working with there girls all the time and wanted a piece of the pie.
With males you can be on some agents sites as non exclusive and still get your own work but that doesn’t work out in your best interest. Example: when a director needs a male when booking a female through a agent and the agents says why don’t you use Donny Long, he is signed with our agency. You have to pay the agent even if that director had used you before and might have called you directly anyways, this happens a lot.
Agents can also hurt a males rep and work because they like to talk shit to directors about males with other agencies and don’t like guys with big dicks tearing up there girls. My advice is to just stay clear of agents and get your own work word of mouth and try out our porn jobs site.
